Back in September we made some special edition metal pin badges featuring a poppy alongside the Black Country flag to help commemorate Remembrance Sunday with all the proceeds going towards keeping alive the usual remembrance day memorial events that would usually happen in Dudley.

These events in turn are vital for raising more funds for the Royal British Legion, as well as being focal points for the community wishing to pay their respects to those that gave soo much too them.

The badges, were a joint venture with The Dudley Remembers committee & the Gentleman Songsters Male Voice Choir , who have been putting on remembrance concerts in the town for a number of years collecting money for the Royal British Legion.

This year, due to the CoronaVirus , the concert was a unique , online affair broadcast by Black Country Radio.

Ian Rawlings, chair of the Dudley Remembers Committee said: “This year’s concert was special, poignant & really well received, but we do miss the funds from people buying tickets & putting money in the collection pots. So the pin badges themselves were not only a great physical representation of remembrance for people, but a vital alternative to funding the future of these events & supporting the British Legion.”

Steve Pitts, Director of Black Country T Shirts:  “Last year, we made 500 of these badges & they sold out in 3 weeks. This year we doubled that to 1000 & they sold out in 3 days! I think that tells you about the character of the people of Dudley & the respect they have for their community. Next year we will have to look at the very least doubling that figure again.”

The Total figure raised of £1228 will be split between securing future events & a direct donation to the Royal British Legion.
