This year we are proud to introduce our Black Country Remembrance Poppy Pin Badge.
There has been a long running event in Dudley held by the Gentleman songsters each year to commemorate those who have fought in wars & their families.
Each year the concert is an opportunity to not only raise money, which it does importantly for the British Legion, but also for people to take time & remember both those who paid the ultimate sacrifice & those who made it back to their community.
As numbers have declined over the years & funding becoming harder to obtain, we commissioned these unique pin badges for people to show solidarity in their remembrance , but also to raise funds & make the event sustainable for the future.
All Money from the event then goes onto the support the British Legion which has supported veterans and their families since 1st world war.
The Black Country Dialect (Part Two) shows the Black Country Community translating several local Black Country sayings/phrases into regular English.
Filmed on location at The Black Country T-Shirt Shop Cradley Heath (old location), the films are both educational and entertaining. giving insight into the Black Country culture and the way they speak.
Ok, so only one of them are officially from the Black Country, front man Robert Plant, born in West Bromwich. The band originally started off life as The New Yardbirds, forming in London in 1968. They embarked on a tour of Scandinavia in the winter of that year and when they returned to England they began to record together. They were also handed with a cease and desist letter claiming the name could only be used for the duration of their Scandinavian tour, after much deliberation from the band and close friends of the band Keith Moon, John Entwistle and Jeff Beck suggested that if Jimmy Page were to make a supergroup together, it would go down like a lead balloon and hence the name Led Zeppelin was born.
Shortly after the name change, they signed with Atlantic records and in 1969 they released their self titled debut album. Critically the album wasn’t well received but commercially it sold very well and helped them establish a name for themselves in the American rock scene.
Although they went on to become massive record selling artists touring the world countless numbers of times, Robert Plant has never forgotten his Black Country roots and has mentioned in interviews that he is immensely proud of the region and all it did for the industry of the United Kingdom….& has frequented our store on more than one occasion!
One hit wonders! Originally formed in Wolverhampton by Jas Mann, they released their debut single ‘Spaceman’ which was featured in a Levi’s Ad, this cemented them at the top of the charts for 5 weeks over the summer of 1995. After this they released another album and disbanded in 2000.
Jas Mann now owns and runs a company that distributes films, television shows and Games.
3.The Wonder Stuff
The Wonder Stuff were formed in Stourbridge in the march of 1986, by the time September had rolled around they were in the studio recording an EP that they’d self financed, called ‘A Wonderful Day’. This caught the attention of Polydor records who signed them in 1987.
Throughout the following years the band toured relentlessly and kept returning to the studio to record albums, until in 1994 they decided to call it a day and formally split the band up. During this time Miles Hunt, the lead vocalist and guitarist embarked upon various solo projects as well as a solo tour of America.
The band reformed, albeit with a slightly different line-up in the year 2000 and have continued to release albums and tour since.
Earlier this year they released their eighth studio album ’30 Goes Around The Sun’ to mark the band’s 30th anniversary.
Originally born Clifford Joseph Price in 1965 in Walsall, he originally made a name for himself as graffiti artist and a member of the breakdancing crew Westside, who were based in the Whitmore Reans and Heathtown areas of Wolverhampton. He became quite prolific in the graffiti scene around Birmingham and Wolverhampton attending completions and even appearing in a documentary about the graffiti scene.
It wasn’t until 1991 when Clifford became fascinated with the drum and bass and jungle music scenes after his girlfriend introduced him to the music. He then became involved with some producers and this helped him get a foot in the door within the scene.
After releasing a few songs and setting up his own label in 1994, Metalheadz, he released his debut album in 1995, Timeless. As well as releasing music throughout the last 20 years, he has also enjoyed acting roles, both on the big screen and small and also appeared on celebrity big brother as well as celebrity strictly come dancing.
He is also still linked to the art world, having had numerous exhibitions and also having his work displayed on the London underground.

As we so like to tell everyone, whenever they start mentioning how many trophies they have won, but where is the true home of football?
Well the truth is… everywhere!
People who have a passion for football , always have a trigger of when it started for them, whether it was playing down the local park or someone taking you to see your fist match, first goal, first anything!
That’s why the true home of football is only ever personal.
The home of football is the palce of your trigger
For me, it’s bearmore park.
At the age of 8 or 9 I was allowed to play out on my own for the first time, at the park opposite my house. With the excitement of discovering the new world without supervision, I got into playing football with the local kids & found freedom.
From there I found my passion & played whenever I could, every lunch at school & every evening afterwards.
My dad took me to my first game, Aston Villa v Everton about 1990.
I had adopted Everton as my favourite team having watched them on TV in the FA Cup Final of 1989……even though they lost!
(They were the underdog & well everyone likes an underdog!)
However, being from the Midlands, my Dad took me to watch them play away from home at Aston Villa, with the hope that I would change my alligiences to a more local team.
The game finished 1-1, I didn’t see any of the goals as we were sat quite far back & whenever anything interesting was about ot happen, we all stood up from our seats, giving me a view of the back of the man in front of me only.
If I’m honest, the experience put me off a little & I went to see only a handful of more live game since & I watch all football I can on TV when it’s on.
We all know, it is a scientifical impossiblility to change your football team & I have stuck with Everton ever since, without ever going to the ground.
Many will say that I’m not a true fan, as I am not really putting money into the game by gonig to watch matches, however, while I understand that point and to a large degree you can say it’s true.
I would argue that the passion I feel, when I watch or pay a game, is not less or greater than many year season ticket holder. Does that not allow me to be called a fan?
I know my ‘Home of Football’, I have even got the t shirt to prove it.
